I’m sure there are many like me who say, “I don’t want to read a book on how to play the game, just quickly show me how“. So this 2min YouTube video will do just that. Enjoy!
Remember, all you need is some glass / plastic over top of your regular chess board to begin playing. It could be supported by books or anything. You could use tape to mark out where the squares are. It’s that easy. Of course you might want to print a visual set of rules to remind yourself of the dimensional movement for each piece.

Don’t forget to tell me how it all turns out. Just post them here.
I have personally found, that after playing many games of 3D Chess (Chess – The Next Generation), the best way to set up the board for just one game (as a-pose-to playing 3 games with the same person), would be to set the game up as seen in the picture below. This is also the better set up as it prevents a corner attack early in the game. Also, I found that the person who is just starting out in 3D chess, he should set up his pieces on the bottom board which forces him to look through the top board. In this way he is always aware of another board for his pieces to move to. This will allow him the full enjoyment of this dimensional game.
I am the inventor of this 3D Chess Game (with copyright from Washington DC) and I’m all about making the game work with out a flaw. Everyone knows that even if there is just a slight flaw or a loop-hole to the game, it is suddenly no fun and the game stops being played.
This is still “Chess”. It just has another board and it helps you to think outside the box. You won’t know how fun it is until you try it for your self (It takes a couple of games). Of course it should be noted that WHITE could be on top because that would be determined by the one who is playing white (then of course, BLACK would be on the bottom board).
It could also be decided upon ahead of time, that this is the way to set-up the game for a tournament.
Chess is the most widely known game and the most studied game in the world. There have been literally thousands of scientific studies concerning this game. For example:
‘TEACHER’S GUIDE: RESEARCH AND BENEFITS OF CHESS’
quadcitychess.com/benefits_of_chess.html lists some of the studies. At the bottom of the above link, it shows:
-develops logical thinking
-promotes imagination and creativity
-develops the capability to predict and
foresee consequences of actions
-shows that success rewards hard work
-develops the scientific way of thinking
-improves schoolwork and grades
Chess is Everything!
The site below talks about ADHD, ADD, and dyslexia and how the game of chess helped.
It goes into an incrediable amount information and other links
At-any-rate, the reason I’m writing this is because if chess is that good, how much more so, when playing 3D Chess on two levels. It’s not difficult. In fact it’s easier to play and takes the same amount of moves/time to play. At the same time though, it teaches someone to think dimensionally or spacial thinking. After all the world is in 3D. These studies would therefore also apply in part to other similar games such as Checkers and Shogi. I have a website that shows these games in 3D: dimensionalized.com/game/index.php or buy my book (10xx) which goes into much detail on how to play these games and others in 3D: stores.lulu.com (where I’m known as 3dPaul).
Believe me, I’m not saying this just for the fun of it. But the above information really works. Others have said, after playing a few games in 3D, they did not want to go back to a regular flat board. You don’t have to be a master at these games to reap the rewards as mentioned in the list above.
Give it a try.
You know alot of people read my page on 3D Chess – The Next Generation. In fact I’ve been watching and it seems that it is about between 7 and 15 visits to the above link every day. But what I’ve been wondering, does anyone play the game or are they just looking? I was wondering how I might get feed back? I have noticed that the military from all over the world have looked at the page and Universities and Schools through out North America along with those who are hidden have come to that page. Is it benifiting anyone? It’s not difficult to set up nor time consuming to play (45min). In fact it is quite exciting to play. So how does one get feedback as to what they think of the game etc.?
Would anyone out there have any suggestions? I have already posted a poll with 5 responses since Feb.2007 and a ‘rate-this-page’ click a star 1-5 with three clicks. Perhaps I’m not the only one or may be I’m going about all wrong.
Thinking that perhaps it was to difficult to understand, I created another page that shows how the game is played visually. Perhaps they don’t read english. In that case it would be best done by the use of pictures which covers everybodys language.
Well, I can’t think of anything else to say. So if someone has a comment, I look forward to reading it.
Google is not good for me any more. I use to be #1 on the 1st page, but they change their algorithm WEEKLY.
So now I tell people go to Yahoo and type in ‘3D Chess’ I am about #9 on the 1st page. If you type in: ‘3D Chess Rules’ I am #1 on the 1st page.
A search engine should be consistant so that you can tell people how to find the information.
I guess I should quickly update these statements (Aug.2007). Back in late July I figured out that google does not like FLASH and/or IFRAMES. By doing a *test* on the server side for a search engine robot. Let the robot see what it want to see, *ELSE* show flash and iframes to people. That about says it in a nutshell because now if you type in ’3D Chess Rules’ in google I am back on the 1st page and in about #4 position. Which is still very good in my opinion.
With the next generation of chess players playing on two boards instead of just one board, it would be nice if the game could be played online. I am a designer/programmer but I don’t have the time. I would hope that if someone was interested, they would take it apon themselves to create the online game. If there was money to be made, lets say in version 2 of the software game, then they could keep it since they created the game according to the rules of the game that I have posted. Of course I would be getting something too. If anyone has any thoughts concerning this please leave a comment, because the people who have played the game really love it! It would make the game more excesable to others anywhere if it was an online game. If the software was to be created, it should look something similar to the picture on the left to start with, in other words being able to see all levels with both boards divided into quarters for easy referance. A second version could be made so that the game could be rotated up/down and to the left/right.
This two level game takes the same amount of time and same amount of moves as in a regular flat board game of chess. The only difference is, this one looks real cool and is even more fun when playing. One of my friends said that after playing a few games he was afraid he would never go back to regular single board chess.
AFTER playing the 1st game with both white and black on ‘A’ level, the Winner Chooses which level he wants to place his pieces (on ‘A’ or ‘B’ level). Then it’s the Losers turn to choose which level he wants to place his pieces. — In-other-words, for each game played after the 1st game, the Winner will always take the action first by placing his pieces on board level ‘A’ or ‘B’. The Loser of the previous game would then take action by choosing which level he wants to put his pieces on. The game would then carry on as normal with White making a move with one of his pieces. This really tests out how good of a chess player you are, because there will be different openings if White is on the top board and Black is on the bottom board.
You just have to try it to see what I mean. J🙂
This gives the Loser, a chance for a Rebuttal.
(no one likes to lose twice in a row)
What do think? Have you played a game yet? Make a comment.
This is myfirst post. I’m just getting use to the possibilities.
The reason I’m posting this is because I see that many things out there are just superficial or on the surface. It is much like a board game where there is Width and Length but no Depth/Height. I personally like to get a 3D look at things. Do some research to find out what is said or written is really so. To look at things from different angles. This of course takes time.
Take for example the board game of chess. I’ve added the ability for pieces to move up/down which gives the game a dimensional feel. This, in reality makes the game easier although it looks more difficult. Looks can be deceiving until you investigate it and keep an open mind. Notice here that the pieces are on both boards as one game. Life is always more fun in 3D. For more information on how this game really works for yourself and for free, go to my site at: http://www.dimensionalized.com/game/rules4_3d_chess/index.php and there you’ll find all the rules and a free downloadable PDF file of the game rules.
Of course to get a real look at things, most pictures are in 2D like the above two. So I’ve also learned how to take pictures in 3D with an ordinary digital camera and then edit it in Photoshop to get the 3D look. To view this kind of picture you will need red/cyan glasses. You can get these glasses for free if you rent the video “Lava Girl…”. It really is worth it because there are so many 3D pictures online right now. The pictures really seem to jump right out of screen! I’ve posted a few links on where to get free 3D glasses or buy them or how you can make your own 3D glasses. I put the links http://www.dimensionalized.com/im_photos/3d/index.php at the bottom in the middle of the page under Information.
Well everyone, that’s all for now.🙂
